Wrens Trip to Colchester Castle
This term Wrens class have been learning about the ancient Romans, so we had a trip to Colchester Castle to find out more! We started off exploring the Roman vaults of the castle. These were actually the foundations of a Roman temple which had once stood on the site. We learnt how the Romans and Celts fought against each other and about the Celtic warrior Boudicca's battles, victories and eventual defeat.
We had fun looking at the artefacts in the museum and then had a run around after lunch at the playground in the castles grounds.
Finally, we built a small Roman villa and all had a sit in it. Can you see the hypocaust underfloor heating system and the mosaic on the floor?
